History of Baker College
Muskegon College founded in 1888 and Baker Business University founded in 1915 merged together in 1965 under a common management when Robert Jewell representing a group of businessmen, purchased the Baker University.
The institution flourished and it is now known as the Baker College System. With a huge number of students it is regarded as largest independent college in Michigan. The enrollment surpassed 45000 students in 2009 - fall. Its main mission was maintained throughout the past years.
The Baker College strives to support the research based quality teaching and learning.
Baker College pays regard to the Academic Quality improvements. The College has worked to enhance its academic offerings and other support programs.
The college bears the honor of having association with Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) through Higher learning commission.
Computer Resources
The Baker College bears the honor of having about 7000 PCs and multiple workstations. The workstations are connected to Wide Area Network of Baker College.
The estimated expense of new hardware and software tools exceeds about $7 million a year. This huge expense is done by the College in order to keep the computer systems and workstations updated.
Many programs offered at Baker College are available over the internet. These programs can be accessed from any computer having an internet connection. Thousands of Baker college students attend their classes through the online systems managed by the College.
Faculty Resources
PCs are provided to the Full-time faculty members in their offices. Through these computer systems, faculty members can get access to Web browsers, Emails and Microsoft office suite. Access to specialized software applications is also provided to the faculty members according to the requirements of courses taught by them.
Student resources
PCs are also provided to the students in the classrooms. On average about 24 PCs per classroom are provided to the students.
Specialized workstations and computerized equipment are available in the laboratories where networking, graphics, engineering, medical programs and electronics are taught.
In order to support out of classroom research needs and access, PCs are made available to students in campus libraries and learning resource centers.
