About

Mission:

The career point college holds on to the mission of providing career-oriented degree programs and diplomas. The degree programs and diplomas are awarded in the demanding fields of business, medical, nursing, legal and computer information.

In order to accomplish this mission, the college is committed to deliver diverse education that is likely to promote motivation, discipline and accountability. Additionally the college is also committed to offer career services to its students.

History of the College:

The Career Point College was established in 1921 by Harold R. Frazell in Kansas City Missouri. The college started its services as Dickinson Business School. In 1953 a secretarial program was added to the range of the courses it conferred and new shorthand system was introduced which became widely famous and the institution became known as "Dickinson Shorthand."

In 1978 Mr. James Miller purchased the school and continued to improve its educational programs. However, in 1981 Mr. Lawrence D. Earle bought an interest in the institution and he strived to broaden the financial base of the school.

By August 1982, the institution savored the honor of being accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Independent Colleges and Schools.

In 1989, Mr. Lawrence D. Earle bought the remaining shareholding of the institution from his partner, Mr. James Miller and the name of the school was changed to Career Point Business School. In 2001, the name of the institution was changed to its present name: ‘Career Point College’.

In 2007, the college started to offer associate in applied science degrees in Network Support Specialist, Legal Administrative Assisting and Administrative Assisting.

In 2009, the college got the approval to offer online degrees and in 2010 it got approval to confer Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, Information Technology - Network Administration, information Technology - Web Design and Health Care Administration.

Major Accreditation:

Accreditation is an honor or recognition which is granted to an institution if it meets or exceeds the standard criteria of delivering quality education.

Following are the purposes of accreditations:
  • Assessing the quality of education provided by an institution.
  • Assuring the consistency in the operations of an institution.
  • Promoting improvements in the institution.
  • Provision of public accountability.
The Career point bears the honor of being majorly accredited by Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).
              

Student Services:

The Career Point College offers following student services.
  • Graduate Employment assistance:
The College offers employment services to its students in order to assist them in getting the jobs. The placement coordinator of the college schedules a mock interview with the students in order to enhance the interview skills of the students. The coordinator also provides assistance in scheduling actual interviews. Employment assistance services are also provided to the previous students who lost their jobs and to the previously placed students who wish to change their jobs.
  • Graduation:
The students are required to pass all the subjects by scoring at least a ‘C’ (2.0) overall average.

The graduates receive Congratulatory Letter, personalized Membership Certificate and a gold medal of distinction.
  • Honor Society:
The career point college is a member of Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society. The society provides recognition to the outstanding graduates of business career colleges and schools.

The membership is based on excellence in leadership, service in classes, school activities, classroom work, good moral character and personal integrity.
  • Housing:
The college staff provides assistance in finding suitable accommodations to the out of town or foreign students. However, the school does not manage its own dormitory or resident facilities.
  • Student activities:
Students clubs at Career Point College bear the responsibility of managing different student functions such as holiday celebrations, graduation parties etc.
  • Tutoring:
The college provides tutoring services to its students without charging extra costs. The tutoring services are executed in the following ways.
  1. The faculty members spend extra time at the college after executing morning classes.
  2. Evening (1:00 pm – 4:50 pm) and night shift (5:30 pm – 10:20 pm) students can come an hour early in order to avail the tutoring services.
  3. AAS Degree program students can arrange meeting with their individual instructors during their office hours.
  4. Nurse Aide program students who attend their classes on Saturdays can come from Monday to Friday during the scheduled tutoring timings.

Career services:

The career Point College offers various career services to its students in order to mitigate the gap between the academic progression and professional enhancement. The team of career advisors provides following career services to its students.
  • Cover Letters / Letters of Interest:
The career advisors provide guidelines for formatting and outline procedures of cover letters/letter of interest.
  • Resume Writing:
Assistance is provided to the students for resume writing. Suggestions for effectiveness, organization options and samples of different templates are provided to the students.
  • Thank You / Acceptance Letters:
Guidance is provided to the students for making Thank you / Acceptance letters.
  • Guidance for successful interviews:
Students are nurtured to grasp various interview skills and tactics in order to make them capable of having effective interview sessions.
  • The Art of Networking for Career Exploration:
Internet has become an effective way of communication. The students are taught to apply networking skills for executing an effective job exploration.
  • Professional Speaking
Communication skills are widely judged by the employers. So the students are also encouraged to enhance their professional communication skills.
