The Computer systems Institute (CSI) is committed to the mission of educating, motivating and leading the students in the pursuit of professional enhancement by fostering practical and relevant education, learning environment, effective career services and supportive student services.

Philosophy:

The philosophy of Computer systems Institute (CSI) is based on the assumption that the students come to school to transform their lives. It provides access to affordable learning opportunities that bear the honor of being high in quality, expertly designed and rich in support and services.

History of the Institute:

The computer system institute (CSI) came into existence in 1989 in order to cater the demands of students struggling for the ever-changing computer industry. Computer Systems Institute expanded its range of programs offered by adding diploma programs and certificates. The adult professionals seeking careers in the business and medical industries were the targets of these certificates and diploma programs.

Computer systems institute currently commences a variety of its learning programs at Skokie, Illinois campus and other learning locations in Elgin, Gurnee, Lombard, Boston and Chicago.

Student support services/student success:

At CSI, priority is given to the student success. Various programs have been set in place in order to assist the students in achievement of and learning outcomes and career goals.

Following are the student success/support services which are offered by CSI.

Academic assistance:
Students who find difficulties in their studies are encouraged to contact their instructors in order to get academic support and tutoring services. The student success center at CSI provides assistance to the students regarding basic course requirements. It also serves to motivate the students for successful completion of their education. The student success center is committed to the goals of facilitating learning process and enhancing graduation and retention rates.

Industry Certifications:
CSI is a Certiport Center, Authorized Prometric Testing Center (APTC) and National Health-career Association, (NHA) test center. It encourages its students to earn professional industry-wide certifications. The on-campus test centers of CSI provide flexible access to the students to sit in a wide range of certification tests.

Career services:
The Computer Systems Institute (CSI) provides access to various career services in order to build the knowledge, skills and certifications that are required for career advancements. CSI is committed to the goal of providing support to the students in order to pursue life-long success of students.

Following are the career services which are provided by CSI to its students.
  • Build a Resume as a Marketing Tool:
The course work of CSI has been designed in a way to support an effective resume building of the students. The institute offers industry standard skills and market place trends in order to foster a competitive edge required for a better job hunt.
  • Interview Skills and Preparation:
Professional coaching is provided to the students in order to enhance their interview skills.
  • Networking & Job Search Support:
CSI’s staff members savor the honor of having long careers in business, information technology and medical sectors. They provide network and job search support required for getting good jobs.

Scholarships:

The institution has managed various scholarship award programs in order to provide support to the students for meeting their educational expenses.

Academic Achievement Scholarships $500 Established for the students who independently pursued passing the high school equivalency exam to get their GED but did not graduate from high schools.
Patriot Scholarships $2,000 for veterans; $1,000 for immediate family members Established to assist the veterans, military service members and their spouses.
Back to Community Scholarships $1000 It is a merit based award and it was established for the students who volunteered in the community work.
CSI Alumni Scholarships $500 This award is meant for CSI graduates who want to continue with CSI for further education.
SMART Scholarships Full CSI Career Program Tuition This is a merit based award and is meant for the students graduating in 2013. Each campus will award 2 SMART scholarships for each academic year.


Grading policies of the institute:

In order to ensure a consistent assessment and equitable grading of the academic performance of students, CSI adopted a common grading system in 1996.

Following are the grading statistics which are considered by CSI in order to grade the educational performance of its students.

B 3.0 80-89 Commendable Achievement
The student has  demonstrated commendable mastery of course competencies.
C 2.0 70-79 Acceptable Achievement
The student has  demonstrated acceptable mastery of course competencies.
D 1.0 60-69 Minimum Achievement
The student has  demonstrated minimum mastery of course competencies.
F 0.0 Below 60 Insufficient Achievement
The student has not  demonstrated sufficient mastery of course competencies to be granted credit.
       
  • Other grade definitions:
I -     Incomplete -some coursework outstanding. Calculated in GPA as D.

W-   Withdrawal – Student has withdrawn from the course.

AU- Audit – Student has audited the course, i.e., was registered and attended  classes but was not responsible for completion of any course assignments. Not considered in 
GPA calculation

P-   Pass – Student has taken the course on a pass/fail basis and earned credit. Not considered in GPA calculation.

F-   Fail – Student has taken the course on a pass/fail basis and failed to earn credit.

IP-   In Progress – Grade not available at the time the transcript was printed. Not considered in GPA calculation.

TR-   Transfer – CSI has allowed student to transfer credit from another institution. Not considered in GPA calculation.
