MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY

South University is a private educational institution which is committed to the provision of learning opportunities for social, intellectual and professional development of a diverse range of students.

In order to accomplish this purpose, the South University offers poised and focused curricula at associate's, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels. A broad-based curriculum is offered by the university in order to promote reasonable written and verbal communication, critical thinking and skills for life-long learning. The University also encourages the requisites to pursue and appreciate knowledge.

The approach of South University towards higher education and varied academic experiences helps students in developing base for personal and professional fulfillment. The University strives to confer a comprehensive education that develops a philosophy of learning and professionalism in the students along with the commitment to enhance the community.

HISTORY OF SOUTH UNIVERSITY

The South University was established by John Draughon in 1899 as a Practical Business College. In 1974, the name of the institution was changed to Draughon's Junior College after its acquisition by the family of John T. South, III.

In 1976, a second campus of the institution was established in West Palm Beach, Florida. In 1985, the institution savored the honor of getting accredited by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to confer Associate Degrees.

The Draughon's Junior College became South College in 1986. In 1996 the college got accredited for conferring Bachelor’s degrees and in 2001 Master’s level accreditation was received by the institution from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and its name was changed to South University.

In 2012, the South University opened its Cleveland, Ohio and High Point, North Carolina campuses.

ACCREDITATIONS

Accreditation is reckoned as a standard against which the schools, colleges and universities are evaluated in context of the quality of education, and the operating practices.

In order to confirm the high standards of educational excellence, the accreditation agencies continuously evaluate the integrity, continuous improvement, accountability and open communication of the institutions which reside on their rosters.

The accreditation instills confidence in the educational community and institutions' constituencies. In order to evaluate the transfers of credit and applications for postgraduate study, the colleges and universities also rely on the accreditation status.

SOUTH UNIVERSITY COUNSELING SERVICES

Counseling services are provided to the students to assist in the resolution of personal, career and academic issues. Assistance is provided to the students regarding the planning of educational programs and adjusting to the demands of University-level studies.

The South University also provides personal counseling services to the students who seek assistance for the resolution of individual issues.

STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAM

South University arranges orientation program for the new students in each term. The orientation is meant for acquainting the students to the academic life and university services. All new students are required to attend the orientation program.

Online learners of South University are required to complete the orientation program online before the beginning of classes. Online orientation provides information about the policies, procedures and expectations regarding the online education at South University.

CAREER SERVICES

The South University maintains a career services department in order to assist students in the attainment of entry-level, full time and field related employment on graduation. Although the full-time employment is not guaranteed by South University, however, obtaining employment for each student is considered important by the university.

As the students approach towards graduation, specialized attention is provided by the university in preparation of professional resumes and cover letters. The job search assistance and interview skills preparation are also given importance by South University.
